According to a press statement to mark the ‘International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists’, issued yesterday by the  BON’s Executive Secretary Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose,  BON emphasised the need for re-orientation of security forces and other state actors to respect the essential role of the media.

BON highlighted the troubling issues of harassment, unlawful arrests, violence, and other forms of aggression against journalists, noting that these actions tarnish Nigeria’s global image.

The organisation called for decisive Government action to protect media practitioners and ensure their safety.
